Neil Hughes

Neil Hughes

Neil Hughes is a comedian, worrier, and the author of ‘Walking on Custard & the Meaning of Life’, a unique combination of autobiographical confessions, humorous fantasy fiction and a ‘how-to’ for living less anxiously and more happily. His TED talk about the surprising link between mental health and the physics of custard has been viewed over 320,000 times. Before becoming a Tech Coach at Tech Returners, Neil’s time was spent juggling careers as a comedian, author, tutor, programmer and international public speaker. When he's not speaking about pudding and anxiety, he might be found building a website, writing a book, playing music, struggling with the picture round at a pub quiz, or making a nice pasta bake.

Neil will be joining our 'Creating Confidence' track session with a talk entitled 'Walking on Custard: How to Be Less Anxious About Everything'

Neil lived with anxiety for years before he had a strange realisation: anxiety is just like custard. This surprising insight led him to discover a new approach to his mental health. In this talk, he uses humour, physics and poorly-drawn doodles to share this new way of thinking about mind management, including practical suggestions for improving mental habits and building a more peaceful life.
